Good entry. :)

Homophobia is a problem that seriously needs dealt with, I have a few gay friends and I'm bisexual myself, so I've seen the front line of prejudice.

It's a blatant attempt at fear mongering. Republicans don't got any actual governing plans so they resort to scaring people with stuff like Communism or Sharia Law just so they can get elected.

You know, if they want to cut the deficit and reduce spending, how about starting with cutting the salaries of Congressmen. They're the ones making the real money not the low-end federal workers.

I support the people of Egypt too. Lets hope it ends well for them.

There is one thing I must comment on, and that's the reaction from conservatives/Republicans. They always bitched about why Muslims don't stand up to their governments if they were oppressive, but when all of this started, what did they do? They bitch about Obama not doing enough to protect our allies, or that the people of Egypt are wrong for doing this. It's like there's no pleasing some... X-(

I hope it all goes well for the people in Egypt. :)

An update on the situation:
-The army has said it won't put down the protesters (so it looks like we might avoid another Tienanmen Square).
-Mubarak won't run for re-election in September, but I doubt it'll be enough to end the protests.

Nicely said. :)

How far out of touch from reality do you have to be do believe such crap that conservatives spread now-a-days? What do these people think life is like in countries with UHC? Do they think handicapped babies get euthanize in Canada? That bureaucrats make life-or-death medical decisions in Britain? That old people are left to die in Germany?

I find it funny that we are picking on other countries with UHC when we do the same damn thing over here, deeming people 'worthless' due to their medical issues and our insurance companies dropping them.

Universal Health Care works in every other civilized country, I don't see why it won't work here.

Here's a good read from last year about 5 myths about health care around the world:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/21/AR2009082101778.html

Also here's something of note, many Americans actually wanted the health care law to go further:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39369615/ns/health-health_care/

Health care reform is not going to be repealed, and it's not going to be "starved of money" either.

Yeah, I don't get the "evil" thing either. A system that allows the poorest of the poor to have their baby delivered or a tumor removed without having to worry about the bill is in no way, shape or form "evil".

Health care is NOT like other free market commodities. Health care is not like buying a car, or a computer, or a TV or a house. If I break my leg, I don't go on Google and check for price comparisons so I can find the best deal for health care, I go to the nearest hospital. There, I'm in a vulnerable position. They can pretty much charge whatever they want, and what am I going to do, say "no thanks, I'll just take my business elsewhere?" I can't exactly do that.

Or if your child wakes up in the middle of the night and can't breathe, is your first thought going to be "I wonder which hospital will offer the lowest prices on Emergency services and in-patient hospitalization? I know, I can save 20% on my bill by going to that hospital 50 miles away!"

No one is saying that doctors or hospitals shouldn't be getting paid for their services (I don't think anyone is saying they shouldn't) but you can't treat health care like it's just another free market commodity, because it isn't.
